The Safari Details
Day 1 to 3
Fly from Arusha to Ruaha where you will be met by a representative and transferred to Kwihala Camp. Three nights at Kwihala CampKwihala Camp: Kwihala is a refreshing combination of adventure and style, designed for those who would like to be that little bit closer to the wildlife and the excitement of Africa, but who still crave the creature comforts to which they have become accustomed. Yes we can all rough it when we have to, but why should we when we are on holiday? And whilst it might be fun to crawl into a sleeping bag on occasion, it’s far more preferable to get into a proper bed with a comfortable mattress, freshly pressed linen and a fluffy blanket.
There is still the excitement and trepidation of being just a few millimetres of canvas away from the great outdoors amid the sounds and scents of the bush. Kwihala is about as good as it gets when it comes to a temporary canvas shelter. It is only when camping that you can get the feeling of being at one with Africa. It's exciting, it's wild and you are part of it, but it is not only about smart designer tents, it is about the camp itself. The central mess tent for dining and relaxing, the camp fire, the friendly staff and experienced guides, the amazing food produced from a ‘camp’ kitchen, the camaraderie, the hospitality and our enthusiasm to show you the best of Ruaha National Park and Southern Tanzania’s truly magnificent wildlife and birdlife. An experience you are unlikely ever to forget.
Day 4 to 6
After breakfast depart for your flight from Ruaha to Selous. On arrival game drive through Selous to the Selous Impala Camp. Spend three nights at Selous Impala Camp.Selous Impala Camp: Selous Impala camp overlooks the rippling Rufiji River, sheltering under Borassus palms and Tamarind trees and provides superb comfort, wonderful wildife and dining under the stars. The Camp was set up by old East Africa hand Gillie Zanacchi and his wife Tessa as a retreat where they could take their friends to enjoy the animals and the bush. It soon became obvious they would have to share!
It is located about one hour's pleasant game drive from Mtemere Airstrip, in the eastern side of the photographic area of Selous Game Reserve, north of the Rufiji River. It lies between two beautiful lakes - Mzizimia and Siwandu - which attract a rich variety of game, both in the wet months of November, March and June, and in the dry seasons. When you arrive you will be welcomed at the reception; you may not be the only visitors!
The camp managers will talk to you about what you would like to do and see. They will arrange game drives, walking safaris and boat safaris to suit your wishes. Flexibility is the key here and you will decide your own programme.
Day 7 to 9
After breakfast depart for your flight to Zanzibar where you will be met and transferred to Mbweni Ruins HotelMbweni Ruins Hotel: Located on the west coast, about 6km from Stone Town and near Chumbe Island marine sanctuary. It's also on the site of the ruins of an old Arab House, which over the years has had many uses, including a chapel and school for freed slave girls as recommended by Dr Livingstone in 1857.
Mbweni Ruins is a small intimate hotel with a good location away from the hectic chaos of Stone Town, but still close enough to pop in and see the sites. The hotel even provides a complimentary shuttle bus which runs several times each day.
